We all need a little romance and as the season of love is almost upon us I was delighted to find the Australian Library Lovers website.
Organised by ALIA the Australian Library and Information Association they are encouraging members to celebrate with those who love and support libraries and to remind key decision makers how loved they are.
I particularly like their theme of ‘sharing’ and the idea of creating and sending ‘Library Lovers Hampers’ to local media, MP’s, politicians and decision makers in their local communities or organisations. They suggest including a few little treats, alongside literature promoting the campaign, as well as the importance of their own service:
‘Tie them up with heaps of ribbon for a truly romantic effect and consider filling the envelopes with some heart shaped sprinkles’.
This reminds me a little of the tactics the Guerilla Gardeners use to ‘flower bomb’ town centres and waste land, as well as a cheery group of ladies I once read about who launched a series of ‘cake drops’ in their local city centre. Just leaving beautifully decorated and wrapped cupcakes ready for some lucky (or unlucky - depending on how long they took to find!) recipient.
What a unique way to capture some attention for your own service and in time for National Libraries Day on the 4th February!
Spread the love....
- Keri
