Unusually we are closing our office today until 2 January 2013. The thought of asking people to come in on 24 December and to then join the Great Escape somehow seemed wrong. The accepted view is that it is quiet in the last week before Christmas and that nothing happens in recruitment in any case in December. I am pleased to say that is usually wrong.
This year the accounts team here are beavering away as I write working to get our last temporary workers payroll for the year out on time and the consultant team are busy registering new jobs, arranging interview and making temporary and permanent job offers – four yesterday and more to finalise today. What a nice Christmas present for the recipients. A new job and a new start for the New Year.
We’ve marked many changes this year but all in all it has been a good year for most. Yes jobs have fallen to the re-organisations and redundancies, but new jobs are also being created, interesting projects are being started up, and those with sound skills are keenly sought after. We loved the Olympics and enjoyed the new London mood created, some of which still hangs on. There are many improvements, such as new street maps everywhere that add to the ease of getting around London, and we hear that the lessons learned in crowd management will be employed to help us all get away for Christmas more easily by public transport. The weather doesn’t sound as if it is going to cooperate but hopefully everyone who takes the time to read this will be where they want, and with whom they want over the Christmas and New Year period, and as a very minimum be safe and warm.
We’ve met lots of new people over the year and attended some excellent conferences, courses, networking events and CPD meetings. We are in awe of those who organise and sponsor these meetings, as they are so useful to those who don’t always have the opportunity to undertake CPD in the work place. Learning something new or meeting a new contact who can help in future is one of the most empowering things. I often think a day is wasted if I haven’t learned something new and useful.
One thing I haven’t had to learn is just what a great team we have here at Sue Hill Recruitment. It is a joy to see them working cooperatively, mentoring the newer team members, and working smoothly, seamlessly and professionally with our clients and candidates. Everyone wants a solution, be it a new person, a skilled and willing temporary worker, a project undertaken or a new job. It is a delight to be able to help. I’m always touched when people take the time to comment. We all like a grumble and sometimes we forget the praise. With superb timing this has just popped up in my email in-box “I wanted to send you all a short note to say 'thank you' for all your kind help and support over this year. You all went to great lengths to help me and I sincerely appreciate it all.” Vijay, we just did our job but thank you for taking the time to tell us that what we love to do helped you.
We’re looking forward to 2013 and hope that it will be good for you and all of us. We are looking forward to supporting Orbis who help others see as our charity for 2013.
Best wishes from us all.
