It is not often I am speechless. Today I find myself unable to respond to an email (either in writing or by telephone) because of the economy of truth practised by the writer.
A client. An HR executive at that.
It won't make me look good whatever I say or do in respect of the response. There are so many points that are so divorced from reality that I truly don’t know where to start. I know why the email was written. And I know that my team have represented our candidates, our company and me ethically and to the same high standards to which we adhere in all our transactions.
Fortunately for us this is one out of thousands of HR people that we deal with. The rest are charming, proactive, professional and keen to get their jobs filled. As we feel when faced with examples of other recruitment professionals behaving inappropriately, they too would be distraught if they knew what a professional colleague was doing.
So now, I am off to Bologna (sorry Seattle) for a long weekend of some pre-Christmas retail and food therapy and the email can sit and wait for a response. I hope you too can leave that awkward email in the office and head out for a weekend of good company and good food.
