"Tra -la -la -la -la -la -la -la -la Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen." The more youthful amongst our lovely readership may need to refer back to 1961 when Neil Sedaka launched this Howard Greenfield song into the charts. Sadly I can remember it only too clearly. Aged eleven at the time sixteen seemed so thrilling but so far away along with lipstick and dare I say boys?
As Sue Hill Recruitment launches into 2013 I am able to "smile with sweet surprise.......It's just that we've grown up before your very eyes" ..... as 2013 marks the start of our sixteenth year.
It seems only yesterday (January 1998) that I placed an advertisement in the then Library Association Gazette and other, now also defunct, job advertising supplements stating simply that "Sue Hill was delighted to announce that Sue Hill Recruitment was open for business". It worked, the phone line I had installed in my house (this was going to be a dining table business) started to ring and CVs began to arrive daily by post (little in the way of email then!).
Since 2000 we've been ensconced in Borough High Street with a team that has grown steadily over the years. There have been many changes as you would expect but everyone who has come here to work has brought interesting, different and insightful approaches to work. We have been truly blessed by their brilliance and ability to help others in their careers. We've had an army of some thousands of temporary workers undertake both long and short, easy and complex assignments and many fabulous individuals find permanent work (some more than once) by using our services. Lots more has happened of course and we've seen many changes, thankfully nearly always positive, and doubtless more to come. There has been the odd tear but mostly it has been smiles and laughter along the way.
As I sit quietly humming tra -la -las to myself I'd like to thank everyone out there who in anyway has contributed to our success and helped ensure we are still here to continue the work we enjoy so much.
Happy Birthday indeed Sweet Sixteen.
- Sue
Belated congratulations Sue!! (I was just thinking about you as I saw my husband drinking a brew out of the mug you so kindly sent him a few years ago now.)
Only 16 years?? It feels like I've known you for ever -we have certainly been to enough library conferences together! As you know I am no longer in libraries but am happy and enjoying life. Would love to catch up. Let me know the best way to contact you.
